Last month we got a complaint that we take too long getting to the plan information. Rather than sending back the e-mail I wanted to write to this guy, I promised to behave to write the Frontpoint review a little differently. So Geoffrey, this is for you.
FRONTPOINT SYSTEM AND FEATURES:
Protection Monitoring. Their basic plan, covering you for intrusion, fire, environmental hazards and life safety conditions. The cost is $34.99 per month.
Interactive Monitoring. This plan lets you interact with your security system from any device that connects to the internet. The plan features crash-and-smash and geo services, as well, it automates your home lighting. Interactive Monitoring monitors your home for intrusion, fire, environmental hazards and life safety conditions, just like Protection Monitoring. The cost is $44.99 per month.
Ultimate Monitoring. Includes all features listed in the other two plans, plus video surveillance. Live stream video is available and can be viewed through their included mobile apps. You can, with Ultimate monitoring, control lights, locks, and thermostats. The cost is $49.99 per month.
Frontpoint is 100% wireless and 100% cellular, which makes it much safer and more reliable than other systems, in the sense that burglars cutting phone lines or cable wires won’t disable the system. This also means you can access your home security system on any device that connects to the internet. Its beginner prices aren’t too bad, and it has many excellent reviews online. You have multiple plans to choose from and customizable add ons: CO, glass break, smoke/heat, and flood sensors, as well as a panic pendants. And, most impressively, it has a 30 day risk-free money-back guarantee trial period.
We mentioned that there is no lack of good reviews online, however, those reviews are most likely from people still in trial periods or within the first couple of months. Because, once you’re a couple of months into your 3 year contract, you’ll begin to experience many issues and problems. The equipment can be faulty, and as you try for customer support you’ll find that not only do they not have tech support – which is terrible for non-tech-savvy people – but their existing customer support is not up to par. They exist only to tell you that the tech problems that you’re having are your fault, and therefore you are liable to pay for replacements. And, if you want to cancel, you pay an 80% cancellation fee.
When the equipment malfunctions, you can expect false alarms, unresponsive equipment, and equipment going offline. The fine print of the standard contract states that you’re liable for charges due to unnecessary police visits – even if their equipment is at fault. Their ‘high-quality tech’ is not updated enough to stand strong in the face of advanced home security threats. They don’t offer the peace of mind that a security company should, which is why you may not have a good experience with Frontpoint.
